For Eau Thermale Avène your safety comes first. Your trust, based on the confidence that all of our products are safe, is crucial. The safety evaluation of our products begins with evaluating the ingredients, the formula, and the packaging. Each of our products is therefore launched with the guarantee that it is safe under normal conditions of use. We then ensure continuous monitoring of their safety through our cosmetovigilance department.
We only use ingredients that have been carefully evaluated by our scientific experts, doctors, and toxicologists, guided by EU cosmetics regulations. For this purpose, for each ingredient, a set of criteria are assessed, i.e. the nature of the ingredient, the concentration of the ingredient in the product that comes into contact with the skin, the contact time that depends on the type of product (rinse-off or leave-on), the category of product (face, body) and therefore the exposure surface, the target with particular attention to the “ sensitive ” populations, namely babies, and the packaging that will be used and how it is applied.
To validate the efficacy of our products regarding the expected objectives (hydrate, remove makeup, provide radiance, etc.) and to ensure they are well tolerated, in addition to assessing ingredients, we carry out clinical studies. Depending on how the product is applied and used, we will define clinical studies including a specific sequence of different tests. If in one of the tests defined, the product fails to meet expectations, it will be reworked to meet the requirements or simply be abandoned. Our priority and the requirement set by the regulations is to provide you with safe products, with guaranteed harmlessness (in other words, non-toxicity), under normal conditions of use.
We have chosen to have our own cosmetovigilance service within our laboratories to ensure the safety of consumers when using our products after they have been placed on the market in all countries where they are sold. This international organisation also relies on external and independent expertise. This network of experts monitors and constantly reassesses the safety of Eau Thermale Avène products: following stringent and recognised methodologies, it collects, validates, and analyses potential undesirable effects related to the use of our products and puts forward any element likely to improve the product.
These data correspond to tests carried out before marketing for a Sterile Cosmetic product intended for babies with eczema-prone skin.
21 is the number of safety assessments conducted on each ingredient, on the formula and on the packaging.
5 in vitro studies were conducted and 2 on reconstructed epidermis.
284 is the number of "healthy" volunteers in 5 clinical studies, 89 is the number of " target " volunteers in 2 clinical studies, conducted under dermatological control.
183 is the number of microbiology, physicochemistry, compatibility and stability studies.
